How Lasers Help With Gum Grafts

When you develop periodontal disease, this could lead to discomfort and eventually recession, which alters the appearance of your smile, making teeth appear longer than usual. Our team can offer treatment to manage periodontic care, and also to correct gum recession! In today’s blog, Dr. Ann Kania talks about how lasers help with our Pinhole Gum Graft procedure!

The Causes of Gum Recession

What causes your periodontal tissues to recede? When you have periodontal disease and have not undergone treatment to manage it, this enables the tissues to begin pulling back from the teeth. This makes teeth appear longer, and exposes portions of the roots not protected by outer enamel, which increases the risk of tooth decay and infection. Without treatment to reverse the recession, you could develop a stage of the disease known as periodontitis, which could mean a higher risk of adult tooth loss! We can help correct you gum recession and offer healthier smiles with the Pinhole Surgical Technique.

A Conservative Gum Graft

A traditional gum graft would involve our team taking tissues from other portions of your mouth’s interior and then using these to cover the exposed roots, creating a new gum line. While effective, this was also a very involved procedure. But we can offer a more conservative approach. With the Pinhole Surgical Technique, we will make a minuscule pinhole in your tissues and then add a collagen material. Our team can then manipulate the issues until they cover these exposed roots, creating a new gum line. Our team will then take steps to ensure proper symmetry in the smile, so you have an attractive appearance too!

Help with Laser Technology

We can help with dental laser technology. With this technology, our team will be able to make any necessary adjustments to periodontal tissues or even underlying attachment tissues. The lasers also destroy harmful bacteria and decrease the risk of bleeding, infection, and swelling, so the treated areas heal much faster. You could even return to your normal routine after only a day or two of rest!

If you have any questions about how we diagnose and treat gum recession, or how we aid in the process with advanced laser technology, then contact our team today to learn more and get started. We want to help you smile with confidence again, and enjoy your best possible smile!
