3d render of dental diode laser used to treat gums. The concept of using laser therapy in the treatment of gums
Why do our gums recede? When we have periodontal disease, this can increase in severity with time. Eventually, the periodontitis stage occurs, leading to adult tooth loss. As this happens, the gums may pull away from the teeth. This exposes sensitive portions of the roots not protected by enamel, and could mean the connective tissues are threatened. Teeth appear longer too! When this happens, please schedule a visit with our team so we can offer treatment and a more attractive smile, often in only one visit.
With a traditional gum graft, tissue would be taken from the interior of your mouth and used to cover the exposed roots and reshape the gum line. While effective, this also meant a longer healing period due to scalpels and sutures. But with the Pinhole Surgical Technique we don’t need these tools. Instead, we may make a very small pinhole in the gums and add a special collagen material. Our team can then manipulate these tissues to cover the exposed portions of your teeth and reshape the gum line. You leave our office with immediately visible results, and can usually return to your normal routine after a day of rest.
Our team will use dental lasers to make the pinhole and to help alter or adjust connective tissue, periodontal tissues, and bone tissue as needed. Lasers can target portions of your smile with precision, preventing damage to healthy parts. The technology destroys harmful bacteria in the process, and allows us to limit the risk of bleeding, infection, and swelling. The area also heals quickly, in as little as 24 to 48 hours. With this technology and treatment option, we can take on your receding gums and provide results that look great and help make your periodontal disease more manageable with preventive treatments moving forward!
