Embracing Laser Technology To Help Your Gums

Our team believes in offering quality care with advanced technology, helping smiles avoid the major complications of periodontal disease. Which is why we’ve embraced laser technology with the LANAP and REPAIR with WaterLase system. In today’s blog, your Encinitas/San Diego, CA, periodontist talks about the benefits of our laser systems.

The Signs of Periodontal Disease

Your general dentist or orthodontist may notice the signs of periodontal disease and refer you to our practice. But we want you to be aware of these common symptoms too, so you know when to seek treatment to protect your gum health and keep your smile whole. Symptoms may include sore gums, redness in the tissues, or bleeding when you brush or floss. You could notice swelling in the tissues, or recession that makes teeth appear longer than usual. Don’t ignore these symptoms, as you risk the onset of the periodontitis stage, the one linked to adult tooth loss.

The Benefits of Laser Technology

Dental lasers can be used to take on minor and severe cases of gum disease, protecting your smile from the advanced stages and tooth loss. The soft tissues lasers we use have been calibrated to take on soft tissue concerns with precision and accuracy. They prevent damage to healthy structures, and rue the risk of swelling, bleeding, and infection. In many cases, there is little to no need for anesthesia, and since we don’t use scalpels or sutures, the area heals quickly. You could return to your normal routine in just 24 hours, and the treatment only takes one visit. For our patients, this is a comfortable and effective way to manage periodontal disease.

The LANAP and REPAIR with WaterLase

We offer two different options to help our patients. With the LANAP system, we will gently trim away the disused portions to allow the healthy portions of your gums to attach to the teeth. This reduces the depth of periodontal pockets, so we can manage the issue moving forward with holistic and preventive options, like cleanings and Ozone Therapy. With REPAIR with WaterLase, the laser is accompanied by a steady stream of water to protect the gum tissues. We again remove portions and reshape the gum line to ensure a better and healthier smile.

If you have any questions about the LANAP or REPAIR with WaterLase systems, or if you would like to make an appointment with our team, then contact our office today to get started.
